ANGELA DOCKING - Massage & Beauty Therapist
Modalities: Beauty Therapist, including Electrolysis, Massage Therapy and Body Treatments What initially inspired you to learn your modalities? I was inspired by my grandmother, who was a hairdresser – that’s where I got the inspiration to get into beauty therapy. After learning beauty therapy I found I had a great passion for body treatments and massage. I loved how these treatments made people feel. When clients come in stressed and leave relaxed I know I have done my job. Share with us two key health benefits that you see people gaining from experiencing your modality:

  • Relaxation – Clients allow themselves to remove from their everyday stresses and let it be about them.
  • Self Confidence – Clients take pride in themselves, not just on the outside but feeling great on the inside – this shines through in all aspects of their lives.

Name one thing that you would recommend to people on their own health journey: Take time for yourself – you are the only person who will really care for you. You control how busy and stressed your life is, take control of your own journey. What does ‘wellness’ mean to you? Wellness means to me healthy body, mind and soul. Be open to all aspects of life. KAREN MAIN - Life Coach
Modalities: Life Coaching What initially inspired you to learn your modalities? I was a leadership coach for a large company and spent many years teaching people how to effectively harness the energies and focus of their entire teams to come together to achieve incredible workplace goals. Yet, after having my 2 children I found I was floundering at home. I did not want to lose some of the happiest years of my life to overwhelm, sadness, worry and confusion. One day it occurred to me I was a leadership coach for teams and yet the greatest thing I could ever lead was my own great life. So, I became an accredited personal life coach as well as business coach.  Share with us two key health benefits that you see people gaining from experiencing your modality: The greatest benefits of life coaching are the improvements to how you feel about yourself and a renewed belief in your ability to lead a life you love. This comes from having:

  • Greater levels of self-awareness
  • A clear sense of purpose
  • Increased confidence and recognition of your strengths
  • A future focus with fresh perspectives
  • A renewed desire to create a satisfying life

You will feel energized, positive and supported. Name one thing that you would recommend to people on their own health journey: Above all else, I would recommend getting to know yourself intimately. Pay attention to the sensations you have in your body, the thoughts that travel through your mind, what you are drawn to, what repels you. Begin to develop your own unique compass to guide you toward a life you love. My second recommendation is to ask for help and seek professional support when needed. Please don’t go it alone. What does ‘wellness’ mean to you? Wellness is intentionally making choices and taking actions to feel HOW YOU WANT TO FEEL physically, mentally, and spiritually. It is having the energy to do what you want to do and the focused attention to enjoy the moment while you do it. ANDREW FOSTER - Meditation for Life Teacher
Modalities: Meditation for Life Teacher What initially inspired you to learn your modalities? Well, in short, I was an alcoholic who was also suffering from destructive patterns of behaviour in my life as well as a Generalised Anxiety Disorder and frequent episodes of depression and two attempts at suicide. A therapist introduced me to ‘Mindfulness’. It was the only thing that had lead me to see significant changes in my external world as well as in my ‘thinking’ or internal world. Share with us two key health benefits that you see people gaining from experiencing your modality: Meditation brings us into our bodies and enables us to spend less time in our heads. This alerts us to signs within the body of things we might otherwise have missed. I don’t think it is any coincidence that since I began meditation practice, that I am the fittest I have ever been and that I eat more healthily than I have ever done, as well as being a non smoker and non drinker. I drank heavily for 28 years and smoked for 21 years, prior to meditation. Name one thing that you would recommend to people on their own health journey: Take a small piece of each day to dedicate to your own well being. In time, you will be surprised at how your health has improved. What does ‘wellness’ mean to you? This is a great question. After a little bit of deliberation and reflection I think wellness means the following to me: Wellness is our ability to be in the moment, to explore, acknowledge and accept how we are right now, in the absence of judgement. This is quite similar if my memory serves me, to a number of definitions of ‘mindfulness’. I don’t think it’s any coincidence. For me, mindfulness is wellness. More on Andrew: Andrew is a qualified School Teacher, an experienced Learning and Development Consultant and an Accredited Meditation Teacher who has a great passion for good mental health and well being. He is currently studying a Diploma in Counselling to support his other skills and has recently returned from a pilgrimage to Plum Village in France and Kopan Monastery in Nepal. He also visited a number of Buddhist sites during a visit to Japan as part of the same trip. Andrew brings a wealth of knowledge, skills and experience to WWC and he is excited to be part of our community.
CHRISTINE COOPER - Medium & Reiki Practitioner
Modalities: Reiki, Tarot/Card Readings, Mediumship, Spiritual Surgery, Pet Healings What initially inspired you to learn your modalities? Always intuitive and passionate to help others, I was looking for a modality to help support people with their own healing and development. I was inspired to learn Reiki because of its openness, honesty and gentleness. Reiki helps to heal and empower the individual and it is working with that energy and a client that continues to inspire me on a daily basis. Share with us two key health benefits that you see people gaining from experiencing your modality: Balance of mind, body and soul and increased energy. Name one thing that you would recommend to people on their own health journey: Be open to learn, grow and develop but also listen to your own mind and body – you know what’s best for you! What does ‘wellness’ mean to you? Wellness is about balance of the mind, body & soul. Everything in moderation – Good eating, exercise, rest & play. Wellness is feeling happy, living a good life, having confidence & self empowerment. MARITA REYNOLDS - Chi Reflexologist, Reiki Master & Meditation for Life Teacher
Modalities: Chi Reflexology, Reiki, Meditation for Life Teacher What initially inspired you to learn your modalities? I’d used basic Reflexology techniques, purely for family health purposes and saw amazing results, I chat about it here. I then decided to learn more and became qualified. I delved more into learning about Reiki as means to give me clarity and learnt the practice of Meditation to help retrain myself to take ‘time out’ for myself without guilt and help me develop my self compassion. Share with us two key health benefits that you see people gaining from experiencing your modality:

  • Relaxation – this helps their bodies to naturally heal because it is in a state of ‘ease’ rather than ‘dis-ease’
  • Giving them permission to take ‘time out’ for themselves & ‘allowing them to just be’ – this helps individuals retrain themselves in being self compassionate, and I believe this to be a very important aspect of health, healing & wellbeing.

Name one thing that you would recommend to people on their own health journey: Retrain yourself to let go of the western paradigm of being ‘on the go’ all the time. Allow yourself to’ just be’ – achieve more than you ever have before & still have time to do everything that is important to you. What does ‘wellness’ mean to you? Feeling calm and relaxed, allowing my body to function & heal naturally. Giving my body permission to work as it is meant to. Having the energy to do all that I am passionate about and sharing that with others. She is also a member of the Australasian Integrative Medicine Association (AIMA). Marita also has a Certificate IV in Training & Assessment and conducts seminars for small businesses.

JULIE LEVER - Reflexologist
Modalities: Reflexology What initially inspired you to learn your modalities? My journey into Reflexology started around 12 years ago when I decided to try a natural therapy as well as mainstream medicine as alone this wasn’t helping me with some of the health issues I was having. A friend suggested Reflexology as she had found it to be beneficial for her. This recommendation helped me dramatically to better assist my health issues and many years on it has assisted me in my decision to change my career path. Share with us two key health benefits that you see people gaining from experiencing your modality: Relaxation – Reflexology stimulates the body into healing itself by improving circulation, reducing stress, pain and restoring the bodies natural balance. Improved Immune System – Reflexology stimulates the lymphatic system which reduces the risk of infection. It cleanses the body of toxins and impurities which leads to an improved immune system and sense of well-being. Name one thing that you would recommend to people on their own health journey: In the world today everyone is so busy – there’s no time for ourselves. We all need to take time to enjoy life and maintain our best possible health. We need to allow ourselves to do something we enjoy and can benefit from such as Reflexology which can help you relax and help the body to balance itself. What does ‘wellness’ mean to you? Wellness is a state of complete physical, mental, spiritual and social well-being, and not simply the absence of disease or ill-health. It is an understanding that everything we do, feel, think and believe has a direct impact on our state of health. CRISTINA SANDLER - Reflexologist
Modalities: Reflexology What initially inspired you to learn your modalities? My long career in nursing and health care has lead me to explore alternative health modalities and seeing first hand the positive effects of having Reflexology treatments, I was interested and intrigued to find out more. Share with us two key health benefits that you see people gaining from experiencing your modality: Reflexology is beneficial for many health issues including poor circulation and stress related illnesses. Reflexology helps to increase circulation which is very important, particularly for diabetics. It reduces stress and anxiety by enhancing the body’s own natural healing processes. Name one thing that you would recommend to people on their own health journey: Many of us spent little time considering our general health until we become unwell. Maintaining optimal health by finding a balance in physical, mental, emotional and energetic levels through alternative treatments, such as Reflexology, should be one of life’s main objectives. Taking time for yourself to enjoy, find strength and insight, and have control of your life from within – this will help you achieve this balance in health and lifestyle. What does ‘wellness’ mean to you? Wellness is when the body, mind and spirit are in a state of harmony and balance. It’s a feeling of vitality and energy, at the same time being relaxed and calm.
